Canadian women strike Olympic hockey gold

SOCHI, Russia – Canada has won its fourth straight Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey and it happened in dramatic fashion.

Marie-Philip Poulin scored in overtime to beat the Americans 3-2 in a thrilling championship final. Poulin also scored with 55 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime. Brianne Jenner scored Canada’s first goal at 16:34 of the third.

U.S. captain Meghan Duggan scored in the second period and Alex Carpenter added a power-play goal in the third at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.

Shannon Szabados made 27 saves in the Canadian net while Jessie Vetter stopped 28 shots for the U.S.
