Crazy weather conditions expected to continue through the weekend

It’s a rainy, messy, downright disgusting Valentine’s Day and unfortunately the crazy weather is not over, we’ll see it all today and tomorrow.

Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says we saw gusts of 90km/h overnight and a lot of precipitation.

“We got about two to five centimetres of snow in and around the greater Halifax region,” he explains. “Total rainfall amounts are a little over 30 millimetres and we have another 20, maybe 30 millimetres to come down today before it tapers off this afternoon.”

It’s going to get cold this afternoon, but stay windy, so expect flurries and freezing conditions for the drive home.

“The ground is still frozen as well so that means in spite of the fact that everything is liquid coming down and the temperatures are mild, the water is still freezing on contact,” he says. “Late this afternoon and into this evening and overnight the temperatures will drop below the freezing mark so everything will freeze and we’re looking at a skating rink.”

We get a bit of a break during the day tomorrow, but it will stay cold.

“We’re looking at flurries Saturday, about five centimetres coming down, Sunday perhaps as much as 10 or 15 centimetres coming down before it changes to freezing rain and rain,” explains Zurawski.

He adds the temperature should level out below the freezing mark for the start of next week.
