Drouin to attend World Junior camp

Jonathan Drouin will travel on Thursday to Toronto to attend the Canadian World Junior Hockey Selection Camp.

The star Moosehead forward’s participation in the annual event was in doubt after he sustained a head injury Friday night against the rival Quebec Rempart at the Metro Centre.

“We are hopeful that the rapid improvement that he has made since Friday night is going to continue,” said Halifax Mooseheads owner Bobby Smith.

“I’ve got the medical reports on my desk now that show some improvement since Friday night and Saturday morning,”  said Smith “Hopefully he will be 100 per cent shortly and will be ready to play.”

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League reviewed the play in which Drouin was injured and decided not to suspend the Rempart player who hit the star forward from behind.

Smith says by not issuing a suspension the league missed an opportunity to send a message to players.

“Great opportunity to show they were serious about players safety which they trumpet at every oportunity,” said Smith. “They did not act when they had the chance.”

Drouin will join teammate Zachary Fucale at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Etobicoke, Ontario tomorrow as the pair try and crack the 22 player roster that will represent Canada in Malmo, Sweden.

Canada’s first game is Boxing Day at 8:30 AM against Germany.
