Kijiji removes ad for Cape Breton man in search of kidney

The popular buy sell and trade website Kijiji has pulled an ad posted by a Cape Breton man in search of a kidney after his planned donor was diagnosed with cancer.

47-year-old Ken Wilkie said he had a response from someone within 20 minutes of putting the ad on Kijiji and has since heard from 38 people who have offered to get tested.

Kijiji’s Community Relations Manager Sean McIntyre said the site has a strict policy against the sale or trade of any blood, body parts, or bodily fluids.

“It’s unfortunate that it’s such a great story and that he was getting such great feedback and I hope that in the time that the ad was on our site he was able to connect with some good people and maybe find a match but unfortunately it does still violate our policy,” says Mcintyre.

He added Kijiji doesn’t want to become the “black market” for the trade of these sorts of things.

Wilkie’s kidneys are failing due to a genetic condition that has caused polycystic kidney disease, leaving him fatigued and suffering muscle cramping.
