Heat wave sets new Halifax record for July 4

A few temperature records fell or were tied in Halifax Thursday as summer finally reached the Maritimes.
A high of 29 was reached at Halifax Stanfield International Airport yesterday tying the record for the hottest July 4 ever recorded, set back in 2002.
Meterologist Phil McLaughlin says temperatures yesterday at Shearwater broke the record high for the day.
“The current record was 28 back in 1999, but yesterday’s heat wave jumped the temperature up to 30 degrees, so that eclipsed the record for Shearwater,” explained McLaughlin.
It was even hotter in New Brunswick where temperatures in Saint John broke the old record of 28 degrees set back in 1949. The mercury there climbed to 30. Moncton tied its record for that city’s hottest July 4 of 31 Celsius.
While there are a few scattered showers and thundershowers in the forecast, highs through Monday for Mainland Nova Scotia are expected to be in the high 20s to low 30s.
