Haligonians play ball hockey for food

Five Hole for Food 2013 (Amanda Debison)

A cross-Canada fundraiser has made a stop at the Emera Oval in Halifax today.

Five Hole for Food lets you play a round of ball hockey in exchange for a food or cash donation for Feed Nova Scotia.

“Our goal is to collect 250,000 lbs of food,” says organizer Richard Loat. “This is our fourth tour, we started in 2010 with our first one. Its grown every year, last year we raised 133,000 lbs of food.”

The travelling fundraiser is hitting 13 cities in 17 days.

“Bring a hockey stick and a donation,” adds Loat. “Have a good time, and at the end of the day you’re giving back through something you absolutely love.”

The fundraiser runs until 7 o’clock.
