Pitbull attacks child

A five-year-old child is in the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax recovering from serious facial injuries after a pitbull attack Wednesday afternoon in New Germany.

RCMP in Lunenburg County say they received a 9-1-1 call around 4 p.m. from the dog’s owner saying the child had been attacked by the 18-month old dog in her home.

The dog has been seized by the Lunenburg County Animal Control and will be put down as per the owner’s wishes.

Police say they don’t expect to lay charges, but are continuing to investigate.

Remove the child from this parents care legally. Put the parent down not the dog….why are animals/pets continually paying with their lives for human stupidity and neglect?

Sad about the child. Blame the adults not the dog..Had the child been properly supervised it would not have happened.Poor dog too.

In this case the stupidity would be actually owning this breed of dog. Had the dog not been a pitbull it’s an almost certainty that this would not have happened. This same story just keeps getting played over and over again, and never once have I heard a version in involving a lab or a retriever. Other breeds bite on occasion, this breed maims and kills on a fairly regular basis. There is also a difference between responsible ‘supervision’ of a child and an expectation that a parent to be on constant guard just in case their child is attacked by a vicious animal. This story will be repeated again, likely several more times this year, as long as these dogs are legal and there is nothing legislated to prevent them from falling into the hands of irresponsible individuals. Place the blame solely on the owners if you like (and I do not completely disagree with that argument), but it seems to me that it is easier to legislate changes to make it very difficult to own this type of animal than it is to try to legislate responsibility or intelligence on the owners part.
