Armed robbery suspect in court today, name released

The 27-year-old man who was arrested over Saturday’s armed robberies will appear in court today.
Donnelly Jospeh Williams is currently being held in a correctional centre until his court appearance this afternoon. He’s facing eleven charges, including trying to escape from police custody.
The four robberies occurred between 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in Halifax. The first two were at the McDonalds and Superstore on Quinpool Road. The last two were on Robie street, first at the Irving then at the Shell station.
In all incidents the suspect either threatened with a knife or hinted at having one. No one was hurt in any of the robberies but cash was stolen from each location. Police arrested the Halifax man on Brunswick Street an hour after the last robbery.
When Williams was arrested Saturday night, he tried to escape when he was being brought from the interview room to the booking detention area, but was quickly captured.
In total, he’s charged with four counts of robbery, four counts of breaching a probation order and three counts of possession of a weapons dangerous to the public.
