NSCAD trained animator wins Oscar

A NSCAD trained animator has walked away with an Oscar statue.

John Kahr attended the downtown Halifax art school in the 1980s and last night walked away with the golden statue for best animated short for Paperman.

“It’s extremely exciting because when I spoke to John last month about his nomination he was very complimentary about his education at NSCAD,” says Marilyn Smulders with NSCAD.

Kahr wrote and directed Paperman, a romance where a glance brings two people together. The traditional 2D black and white animation was produced by Disney.
