Schools around the province are closed today following rain, snow and high winds that have made for poor road conditions and visibility.
Classes are cancelled today in the following school districts and schools:
- Halifax Regional School Board
- South Shore Regional
- Chignecto Central
- Annapolis Valley Regional
- Halifax Christian Academy
- NSCC has closed all of its campuses
- Centre for Arts and Technology and Centre for Health Studies campus in Halifax
With a wind warning in effect, RCMP say blowing snow is causing periodic whiteouts in open areas.
News 95.7 meterologist Richard Zurawski says we can expect those high winds to stick around for most of the day.
“It will gradually taper off this afternoon and into this evening and in the open places they could be gusting as high as 100 km/h. As a result, we have a wind warning in effect.”
There are a number of cancellations and delays at both Halifax Stanfield International, and Toronto’s Pearson airport.
Earlier this morning, over 16,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were without power in southwest Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
