Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais says front line officers will not lose their jobs in this years proposed police budget.

Blais tells News 95.7 there could be a conversion of police jobs into conversion of police jobs into civilian positions.

“We have individuals who are retiring and leaving the organization, as well as having positions that have not been back filled, so what we will be doing is taking those positions and converting them into civilian positions.” explains Blais.

He reassures there will be no decrease in total employees at HRP.

Blais has presented the police commission with a $73 million budget, which shows an increase of just over 5% to the force’s operating costs.

The board will meet again on February 25th to work on approving a budget that council will end up voting on.
