CCMA’s coming to Halifax in 2015

Time to grab your country hat, Halifax will host the Canadian Country Music Association Awards and Country Music Week from September 10-13th in 2015.

The four day country event will hold 35 events including seminars, songwriter cafes and plenty of music. “The event ends with a major show at the Metro Centre where awards will be handed out” says CCMA President Don Green, who tells News 95.7 it includes awards for best male, female, group of the year and more.

“A couple of weeks ago we had Blue Rodeo at the Metro Centre, Merle Haggard is coming, Terri Clark will be at the Casino, so there’s plenty of venues.” says Mayor Mike Savage.

Culture and Tourism Minister Percy Paris expects the event to produce over 7 million dollars in economic spin offs. Both the province and city are contributing $250,000 to the festival.

The CCMA’s and Country Music Week will be held in Edmonton for the next two years.

The last time the event took place in Halifax was over 30 years ago.
