ATV riders found safe after getting lost in storm

A group of ATV riders have been found safe after getting lost in the middle of the night.

Halifax Police say they responded to a 9-1-1 call around 1am, that seven people had been driving the ATV’s since 7pm last night and were lost with low fuel and cell phone batteries.

Ground Search and Rescue were called in to assist in the search.

Staff Sgt. Bill Morris tells News 95.7 they were in touch with the group over phone, and initial GPS coordinates showed the group were in the ragged lake area.

“At one point we were informed that they had separated to try and find their way out of the woods, they were told to get back together, and eventually made their way to a cabin on German Island,” explains Morris.

He says the group was able to start a fire to keep warm and were located by Ground Search and Rescue soon after.
