Head-on crash in Timberlea kills child

A head-on crash on a slippery road outside the city killed a little boy Wednesday night.

The 34-year-old driver of a full sized pickup truck lost control on the Timberlea Parkway connecting the 103 with St. Margaret’s Bay Road. The truck crossed the center line at Brunello Boulevard and smashed head-on into an oncoming Ford Escape SUV at about 7pm.

In that SUV were a dad and his two sons, aged five and eight. The younger boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the IWK children’s hospital.

His brother was hurt but will survive. The father is okay. The truck driver was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Police had the road closed for hours Wednesday night as they investigated. They say road conditions appear to have been a contributing factor in the collision.
