City hands out whopping $50,000 in parking ban tickets

Two consecutive nights of overnight parking restrictions in HRM have landed a number of people with rather expensive parking tickets.

The city handed out 1000 tickets and towed seven vehicles. The tickets which bring a $50 fine, means the city brought in $50,000 over the weekend.

“Compared to the previous event there was more like 325 tickets during the first event so it does seem to be up but it was over the holidays so maybe more people were in town,” says HRM’s Tiffany Chase.

The ban, designed to aid in snow removal is called into effect when a big storm is on the horizon. The latest storm saw the ban called for two consecutive nights.
