If Canada could fix its economic situation, then maybe ordinary Canadian families wouldn’t have to look for the $5.00 Bangladish t shirt. I’m sure the senators aren’t shopping for these items. Its is a necessary that families can purchase cheaper clothing because of our situation. If the Government could learn to live within their means and stop wasting money, then maybe our life would be a little better.
are they messing around with your radio signals because I just lost connection or it is so poor I cant listen to the program???
Emergency repairs to our tower are underway. Hopefully any interruption you are experiencing will be resolved soon.
Whoever that was going by the name ‘David’ that called in this morning at the end of the chat about the Municipal Arts funding issue claimed to be a member of Symphony Nova Scotia. He is NOT a member of Symphony Nova Scotia. As a member myself, I know there’s only one David in our orchestra. That was not him. When the host asked whether there was a need for more suitable municipal arts funding for professional arts organizations in Halifax this impostor started rambling about the need for more condos downtown instead. Jerk.
Hi Jordy,
Back to the sad story of long wait time in Nova Scotia and wanted to bring to your attention some points and will be more than happy to submit proofs.
- Long wait time to tax payers in Nova Scotia is becoming a nightmare
- Patients are suffering and there are many more patients who have their wait time have passed 11 years and still in pain for nothing but the reluctant decision makers to see what are the mandates for their position and the benefit they should bring to patients.
- Responsible authorities work in silos.
- Lack of accountability and commitment; decision makers specially the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons need to make the mandatory steps to improve patient care in NS.
- In the time patients suffer from pains and lack of services in our beloved NS, we do have MANY International Medical Graduates who are more than happy and passionate to help in finding a radical solution for our shortage of Physicians and technicians and eventually provided services.
- What is the real reason behind Physicians shortage? Physicians are not obtaining licenses from the Royal College in NS. Persistent refusal to issue licenses to IMGs to practice and alleviate the shortage problem will help in exaggerating the catastrophe.
- Solution: The Royal College and Department of Health can come to a common agreement (if they want) and implement a policy/rules on how to make use of these experienced potential in solving this problem forever.
- Institutions can still make money out of implementing and imposing different policies and procedures for IMG to get into the system, however, legislative authorities need to relook at the valuable interest of those patients in pain and the overall provincial situation rather on looking at it solely from a business point of view to gain money
- Claiming that these IMGs are not up to the Canadian standard does not count any more for the following reasons:
o These professionals were graduated from UN accredited Medical schools and Universities.
o They are highly experienced clinicians, many with more than 20 years of experience in their respective fields/specialty.
There is good diversity of experiences that will definitely cover our need in NS if decision makers in the Royal College want to consider the potential
Solutions:
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon in NS to relook at the whole process and allow issuance of licenses to IMGs to make use of such potential wealth for the sake of our patients and improving the healthcare to Nova Scotians.
Hi Jordie, I heard your item on the bottles in HRM. Just want to set the record straight. There is no tax of 5 cents. The additional 5 cents pays for the system costs, sorting, counting, trucking, baling, etc.
The deposit of 10 cents has not gone up in 18 years. The Hogg report noted that things would have to change or the system would be in trouble in about 5 years. I understand that RRFB aree working on system improvements, something that HRM obviously does not want, more efficiency. They prefer to take the cash and in all likelihood eventually increase taxes.
Depots are privately owned and employee between 300-400 staff. Staff are paid close to minimum wage, is HRM going to have municipal workers doing the same work at probably $ 18.00 per hour.
That will put our taxes up. Your callers are correct scounts, guides, sports teams all benefit from this bottle collection. In other provinces that have a blue bag system only, the return rate is about 15 % + lower than provinces that have a depot collection system. Depot networks in NS, NB, PEI, Sask,Alb and BC. are quite efficient.
The RRFB have been leaders in the industry, providing funding for environmental initiatives and have kept billions of containers out of the landfill. They continue to innovate and are still doing so.
HRM should also note that it has been shown that blue bag containers include contaiminants that the end buyer of the produt do not want. They want a good clean sort.
I would be more than happy to set the record straight should this topic continue on your show.
In fairness, please read my response to the latest comments by Councillor Rankin.
It is sad that misinformation and slanted information gets to the public.
I was just listening to your segment on reading. We have 4 children, 3 boys and one girl. When our oldest went to school (he is now almost 21), we decided that the kids would be required, by us, to spell and read phonetically (although we did not know that it was called that at the time). We would not accept when a kid came home with a good mark on a paper because the words were close to being spelled properly, they had to correct their work with us. Consequently, all 4 of my kids love to read, enjoy going through bookstores (yes, we spend a lot in them!), and are all excellent students. No one child is the same in our family, but they do understand the value of reading. Interestingly, we made the mistake of allowing our 2nd boy to read books called “Captain Underpants”. This series is designed for boys. It is funny but spelling and sentence structure is awful. Because of these books he has had trouble with spelling. These books could be characterized as being written with a whole language approach (spelling is atrocious). Let’s go back to Primary to Grade 6 focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic. No computers, learning some stuff by rote and repetition, you know, a classic education that made people like Bill Gates, etc.
