Pedestrian hit in crosswalk

Halifax police are once again urging motorists to slow down, and pedestrians to pay extra attention.

This comes after another pedestrian was hit in a marked crosswalk this morning.

Police say they were called just before noon to the intersection of Caledonia Rd. and Main St. in dartmouth.

A 23 year old female was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The 76 year old woman driving the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Drivers have to pay extra attention around crosswalks especially when people are near them, they may step out or they may just stand there, as I saw today. Pedestrians, you have to make sure the driver has to see you and that YOU realize drivers cannot and are unable to stop instantly when you step your foot off the curb. It takes more than 5 – 10 seconds and 5 ft. to avoid hitting you. Both have a responsibility to avoid the accidents, even more so on rainy days and at night, some drivers night vision is decreased.
