Power outage closes South Shore schools

Nearly 5,700 Nova Scotia Power customers in the Bridgewater area were without power for several hours early this morning.

Crews had the outage, which started around 5:30 a.m. for most customers, repaired by 8 a.m. There were smaller outages in the Caledonia and Windsor areas.

A power outage has also closed some schools in the South Shore Regional School Board today including New Germany Rural High School, New Germany Elementary School and West Northfield Elementary School.

Buses in the South Shore District are only travelling on paved roads today.

Students in Annapolis Valley Regional School Board will be back in class today, but bus drivers are using their discretion on secondary roads.

Both Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and the Annapolis Valley board cancelled classes Wednesday, amid snowfall warnings, in what was the first snow day of the year for students.
