Pedestrian accident brings total to four in 24 hours

Another pedestrian was hit in a crosswalk in Dartmouth Wednesday night.

That brings the total number of pedestrian accidents yesterday to three, in addition to a hit and run involving a man in a marked crosswalk Tuesday evening.

Halifax Regional Police say just before 6 p.m., a 30–year old Beaverbank man was hit in the crosswalk at Windmill Road and Jamieson Street.

The man was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

A 21-year-old Dartmouth man was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and for being a licensed learner operating a motor vehicle without an experienced driver present in the vehicle.

In the incidents earlier in the day, a woman was hit by a Metro Transit bus near Spring Garden Road and Summer Street. She suffered minor injuries.

A second, more serious crash saw a woman hit by a car at Portland street and Hawthorne just before 8 a.m.  She was rushed to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Const. Pierre Bourdages says police are continuing to try to educate drivers and pedestrians to pay attention.

Yesterday’s accidents are in addition to a Tuesday night hit and run involving a pedestrian in Dartmouth. That driver left the scene before police arrived.
