The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador is scheduled to make an announcement this evening on Muskrat Falls – days after saying her government’s sanction of the hydroelectric project was imminent.
Kathy Dunderdale’s government has been pushing approval of the joint venture between Newfoundland Crown corporation Nalcor Energy and Nova Scotia private equity firm Emera.
The megaproject in Labrador is expected to cost the province at least 6.2 billion dollars.
The development includes construction of a subsea cable that would link Newfoundland with Nova Scotia.

A curtailed debate on the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project began Wednesday in the Newfoundland and Labrador legislature despite a protest outside from opponents who say the multibillion-dollar venture could burden the province with debt.THE CANADIAN PRESS/Paul Daly
