Nova Cold Consolidated Limited is getting a generous boost thanks to the federal and provincial governments.
The company will receive a loan of $410,000 from Ottawa and $540,000 from the Dexter government.
The company is building another facility in the Atlantic Gateway Halifax Logistics Park in Burnside to meet the growing demand of Atlantic Canada’s food exporters to offshore markets.
Defence Minister Peter MacKay and MLA Becky Kent made the announcement Friday.
MacKay says the government is providing the money to help Atlantic Canada compete.
“That’s why our government investing in Atlantic Canadian business; so that we can build a more competitive economy and we can compete, we know we can compete, with the rest of the country and the rest of the world,” he explains. “We do it in shipbuilding, we’re doing it energy and manufacturing and we’re certainly doing it in the natural resource sector.
He says the money will help the company get better equipment.
“Our assistance will help Nova Cold acquire some of the state-of-the-art machinery required to operate the new globally competitive facility that they have in sight, including a modern cold-chain logistical center with the latest in cold storage and handling technology,” explains MacKay.
The new facility is expected to open in spring 2013.

“Canadian Forces links adverse reaction to H1N1 flu vaccine, exacerbating Multiple Sclerosis symptoms”
In 2009 I received the H1N1 shot (AREPANRIX by GSK GlaxoSmithKline) and had an adverse reaction to the vaccine. I received PERMANENT neurological, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory symptoms: dizziness, vertigo, irregular heart rhythms, shortness of breath, muscle weakness and pain, and numbness in hands and feet. My physical fitness changed from marathon fit to that of a 70 year old in a matter of days. In 2012 the Canadian Forces advised “it is our opinion that your adverse reaction to the H1N1 vaccine, resulting in a syndrome of complex symptoms, is service related”. It’s unfortunate I had to release from the CF in 2011 and suffer three years of severe symptoms before the CF provided this admission in writing. I wrote Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, on numerous occasions to resolve this issue and
breaches in security protocol but have yet to receive a response.
