Hundreds of demonstrators are expected take to grand parade today in protest of the proposed changes that could come with Bill C-45.

One of the major concerns is changes to the navigable waters act, the fisheries act and a separate private members bill that could repeal or significantly change the Indian Act.

Shelly Young is one of the organizers and tells News 95.7 the changes aren’t going to just affect First Nations.

“It’s going to affect everybody,” she explains. “It will affect our environment; we’re worried about our environment and we’re worried about our water. A lot of our treaties haven’t been honored and we want to educated everyone, including ourselves.”

She says if the changes pass, nothing will be safe.

“We worry about our children and our next generation and we’re worried about the rest of Canada,” she says.

The rallies have been, and will continue to take place, across the country with the goal of generating enough buzz to have the changes stopped.
