RCMP have busted their first lab meth in Nova Scotia history.
The lab was uncovered in the Truro area after a search warrant was executed Tuesday night.
RCMP Sgt. Al Affleck said officers in hazmat suits descended on a trailer in Salmon River yesterday afternoon.
“We first let the RCMP robot go in with detectors on it to determine the quality of the air. Once the robot went in and cleared the area and came back out, the six member hazmat team or RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Team went in and made an initial assessment of the area,” said Affleck.
Affleck said the hazmat team is now working with Health Canada to confirm it was actually meth being produced from the rented trailer.
“They tell them what they’ve seen and what they’ve found in there, then they go back in and they suit up again and go back into the residence and then they bring out items and take samples off the items and test them to determine what they have,” explained Affleck.
Affleck said the small trailer court on Matheson Drive is very old, with more than half of the trailers vacant.
He said it’s believed the trailer in question was being rented.
One person has been arrested, but as of late last night no charges had been laid.
