Justice Minister Ross Landry says more time is going to be taken to decide on a course of action.
Meanwhile, PC Leader Jamie Ballie thinks the NDP Government should call a public inquiry right away.
“I don’t know why they need to think longer about doing something as fundamentally humane and important as calling a public inquiry into what went on, ultimately, at the home for coloured children,” says Ballie.
He says regardless if RCMP say they are not laying charges, there should be a public inquiry to provide a final opportunity for healing for victims, families and the community.
“And also to ensure that we have learned all the lessons and put in place all of the safe guards to ensure that it never happens again in Nova Scotia,” Ballie adds.
Meanwhile, Liberal Community Services Critic Kelly Regan agrees.
“The government has a moral obligation to do this, period,” says Regan.
Police say the information they collected does not support the laying of criminal charges because it could not be corroborated.
