O’Regan’s Automotive Group is giving $1 million to the new Halifax Central Library.  It’s a tribute to Paul O’Regan who passed away unexpectedly in March 2012.

As a ‘thank you’ for the donation, the library will name a large public space on the main floor of the new facility “O’Regan Hall”.

Shawn O’Regan says the family wanted to make the donation and this was the perfect opportunity.

“It’s one of those things that doesn’t come along very often,” he says “A new library downtown? You know, I wasn’t around when the last one was built,” he says.

Halifax Public Library CEO Judith Hare says the cash is going to help with a myriad of projects at the new location.

“The technology, the books, the special equipment,” she says.  “This really helps us make sure that all of these things happen.”

This is the single largest gift to a public library in the province.
