The spirit of the holiday season was getting a helpful boost outside of Province House this morning. Four Christmas trees were donated to local charities, Metro Turning Point, Camp Hill Veterans Hospital, Guardian Angel’s Single Parent Center and Adsum House for Women and Children.
Sheri Lecker is the Executive Director of Adsum House for Women and Children. Her organization has received a tree for many years.
“It’s something we count on,” she says. “We have very high ceilings in a heritage house and we always receive a wonderful tree from Lunenburg and the women and children are waiting today to decorate it.”
Nova Scotia Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker handed out a Christmas tree to the Metro Turing Point.
“They’re very thankful, very pleased to see it,” he says. “And I understand the last year the one was received there as well and it really lit up the eyes of the men that are in the Turning Point.”
Bruce Turner is the President of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association he says events like today are a chance to thank the government for their support of the real tree industry but it goes beyond that.
“It’s a chance to set these trees up to the different charitable organizations and see the expression of gratitude on their faces and it’s really all about giving that’s the season.” he says.
The trees were given to the charities by Premier Darryl Dexter, Agriculture Minister John MacDonell, Lieutenant Governor J.J. Grant and Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker.
