There is a call to take a closer look at the Halifax Common.

The last review of the area, that not only encompasses the parkland itself but covers an area that extends down to South Park Street, was done in 1997 and District 8 councilor Jennifer Watts wants it updated.

“I think what this will do is take us back to the good planning that was done in 1994,” she says. “See what we want to continue with, if there are some changes or look at the impact that has happened on the common; have we followed that plan?”

She adds the area in question is not only one the park itself but the historic Common that stretches to South Park Street.

“We need to continue look at a real linear link once again from Victoria Park up to the Public Garden,” she says.

Watts tells Maritime Morning time is of the essence as the municipality is in the process of a three year study called the center plan.

The councilors says the study of the peninsula and downtown Dartmouth will change zoning so it’s important to take a look at the gem that is the Common before that process is over.
