An RCMP officer was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit while responding to a crash on the 101 Saturday morning.

It happened on the Bedford By-Pass Highway 101 at Rocky Lake Road at 5:30 a.m.

An oncoming car lost control and hit the parked police cruiser.

As a result of this collision, the RCMP officer standing near his cruiser was struck and catapulted over a 30 foot embankment on rocks and tree stumps.

Road conditions were very slippery at the time of the collisions and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.

The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
