Two men were hoisted from their fishing boat in P.E.I.’s Malpeque Bay after getting stuck in the ice.
An official with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax said the pair were lifted onto a Cormorant helicopter at about 9 p.m. last night.
A military search and rescue helicopter was dispatched from 14 Wing in Greenwood, N.S., and arrived at the scene about 4:30 p.m.
The men told the crew they did not want to be hoisted to the helicopter, but later changed their minds as darkness set in.
Centre spokeswoman Geri Grychowski said a search and rescue technician was lowered to the boat and stayed with the men while the helicopter went to Summerside to refuel.
One man had apparently cut his thumb, but the pair were said to be in good condition.
