Health Minister Dave Wilson has announced funding to help a treatment program support more people across Nova Scotia.
Wilson says $350,000 will go towards the expansion of the ‘Strongest Families Program’.
The 12-week program gives people access over the phone to trained coaches provide skills and support to families dealing with children’s mental health issues.
Wilson says right now the program is only offered through the IWK, Cape Breton District Health Authority and Cumberland District Health Authority.
“We recognize the importance of this program, so we are going to have it offered province wide,” explains Wilson, “I look forward to families being able to gain access to this important program.”
Dr. Patricia Lingley-Pottie is the President and COO of Strongest Families, she says families receive help in the comfort of their own home.
“There is no need to travel, there is no need to take time off work, and there is no need for children to leave school,” says Lingley-Pottie.
The investment directly supports the province’s Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, Together We Can.
