We’ll find out if any Halifax Mooseheads will get invited to team Canada’s National Junior selection camp Monday at 2:30 p.m.

“I’d like to think the chances are excellent. All three have earned the opportunity,” says General Manager Cam Russell.

The three potential players for the Mooseheads who could garner an invite are forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin and netminder Zach Fucale. MacKinnon and Drouin are the 1 and 2 ranked QMJHL skaters respectively in the latest NHL Central Scouting rankings. Fucale is the top-rated North American born goalie.

“There’s a lot of good hockey players across the country,” says Russell. “But they’ve got an excellent shot at being selected to tryout.”

Players who cracked the selection camp roster will be notified by Hockey Canada’s coaching staff Sunday night.

Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson and head scout Kevin Predergast will be among those to announce the roster Monday afternoon.

The players selected leave December 10 for the three-day try-out camp.  The Mooseheads will be without any players that crack the lineup until the beginning of January.

The Mooseheads roster could be missing several of their star players in December. Martin Frk will leave on December 10 for the Czech Republic’s junior team. Defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser who is nursing a broken bone in his wrist has been out for a week already. It’s estimated he’ll miss 2-4 weeks, and there’s potential for the German to return from injury only to head off to the World Juniors as well.
