The Skye Halifax development will not be towering over the city.

The motion was moved by Councillor Waye Mason and he tells News 95.7 he’s pleased with the final decision.

“I feel really good about it,” said Mason. “I think we have spent a tremendous amount of money and resources trying to develop plans that we would follow, and I think it’s good that council stuck by its guns and is going to follow the plan.”

The decision is unappealable.

Mayor Mike Savage got involved in the debate as well, he switched chairs with Deputy Mayor Reg Rankin to say a few words.

“What this motion is about in my view is whether we’re committed to following our plans for the design of our city,” explained Savage.

He says the project would have damaged the bond of trust between council and citizens.
