Halifax Regional Police say a 52-year-old man was taken to hospital after the cement truck he was driving went off the road and flipped on its side Monday afternoon.

Police say the accident happened around 2 p.m. on Highway 102 inbound between the Kearney Lake Road and Lacewood Drive exits.

They say several other motorists had swerved to avoid debris on the road, and the truck driver lost control while attempting to avoid the other motorists. The truck came to rest in a ditch.

Officials say firefighters had to remove the man from the truck, who was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One lane of the highway was expected to be closed for about two hours Monday evening as officials removed the truck from the ditch.
