The Edmonton region has been dealt a winter wallop this early in November, with a storm that has dumped up to 25 centimetres of snow.

Police say hazardous driving conditions have caused more than 200 accidents that have left at least one person dead and a dozen others injured.

“We have the rain turning to snow which is something we’re not used to in Edmonton,” road maintenance director Bob Dunford told the Canadian Press. “But it puts that nice, slick sheen on the road, underneath the snow. It is a very heavy, wet snow accumulating very quickly.”

Blowing snow is also making for hazardous road conditions across parts of mid-Saskatchewan, where forecasters were expecting 15 centimetres of snow by morning.
