A Dartmouth corrections officer has been charged with drug trafficking after an investigation by the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Guns & Gangs Unit.

Police say the Bedford man, 49, was arrested just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, as he was about to enter the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside.

He was found to be carrying marijuana, hydromorph, tobacco, drug paraphenalia and cash. Police also seized his vehicle.

Investigators allege the drugs were destined for distribution within the corrections system.

The man was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court Friday to face two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
