If you’re the owner of a dog that might have a little too much too love, a new reality show is looking for you.

Producers of a new show called “Dog Eat Dog” are casting in Halifax.

The premise is similar to shows like “X-Weighted” and “The Biggest Loser.”

Producer Edward Peill says the goal of the show is to get the dogs into better shape, but there’s more to it than that.

“It’s not just about losing weight. It’s about looking at the whole lifestyle and you know, trying to get to the root of why is Fido on the chubby side?”

Peill said the show wants to reveal the underlying causes and cures for dog obesity. In the process, the owners may benefit as well, but that’s not the intention.

“If you know part of the reason why the dog might be overweight is that it’s not getting enough exercise and one of the recommendations from our experts is well…you really need to get out and walk one hour a day. Then yeah, I can imagine one of the things that can happen is that the owners might end up getting out thereand getting fit as well,” said Peill.

You can dig up an audition application at dogeatdog.ca. Friday, Nov. 2 is the deadline to apply.

The show will eventually appear on the Pet Network digital cable channel.
