Halifax’s mayoral race is seeing its first attack ad.

Candidate Tom Martin has created a YouTube video in which he tells voters he released in campaign finances last week, while suggesting other candidates have not.

Although he never mentions Mike Savage’s name in the ad, Savage is the only candidate who has not made his campaign finances public.

Savage says he won’t do so until after the vote, which is in accordance with election laws.

He adds people want a “new style” of government that’s open and transparent, not the old “attack style.”

“All of my videos and the many testimonials available on my website talk about our campaign, what I believe as mayor and why people are supporting me because I think what people want is an optimistic view of the future, they want to know where we’re going,” explains Savage.

He says everything he’s done in this campaign has been out in the open.
