Financial pressures are forcing serious changes at Nova Scotia’s Black Cultural Centre.
A news release sent out shortly before the end of business Friday says leaders have had to make tough decisions.
The Centre is closing for the fall and winter months, though it will still open for school trips and group tours.
“The Black Cultural Society/Centre has taken stock of the current situation and made a difficult choice to focus on the long-term future of the centre, rather than looking for short-term fixes,” wrote Dr. Les Oliver, President, Black Cultural Centre Board of Directors. “After thoroughly assessing our options, operations and fiscal situation, we chose the option focused on sustainability and long term growth.”
Three jobs will be cut: the curator, administrative assistant and receptionist.
The Black Cultural Centre opened in Cherry Brook in September 1983.
