A jury has been sequestered after nearly three hours of deliberations Wednesday did not result in a verdict.

Chaze Lamar Thompson, 22, is charged with first-degree murder after the shooting death of Halifax taxi driver Sergei Kostin.

Kostin, who drove for Bob’s Taxi, disappeared Jan. 17, 2009 after picking up two young men at a variety store in Dartmouth.

His burned-out vehicle was found three days later in Cherry Brook, N.S.  Police found his body April 1, under a tree in North Preston.

Thompson’s trial started Sept. 10 in Nova Scotia Supreme Court. The 7-man, 5-woman jury began deliberating just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

When they hadn’t reached a verdict by 6 p.m., Justice Glen McDougall ordered them sequestered for the night.

Deliberations resume this morning.
