A group based out of Boston and HRM are taking a very close look at establishing a ferry link between the two cities.
A 2010 study looked at the feasibility of running a fast ferry between the two cities as a way of moving both passengers and cargo.
Eric Koppernaes is part of the American Ferries Limited group that wants to go forward with the plan, suggesting that the link would be financially viable.
Koppernaes says a lot of work is going on behind the scenes, from looking for the right vessel to service the route to the availability of Federal funding to offset the costs.
The plan is to find a ship that is big, and fast enough to complete the trip in about 15 hours.
Koppernaes says flying a family of four to Boston is costly, adding the ferry link would offer direct service as a cheaper price.
The business scenario is even brighter, allowing companies to access the large market that is the eastern seaboard of the United States.
Koppernaes is confident that business will use the link as a way to cut down on logistical costs.
No time frame has been set to establish the link.
