Some students at Halifax’s University of King’s College say they’re outraged by the compensation doled out last year to bursar Gerald Smith.

Smith is on paid leave from his job as he faces charges of sexual assault and gross indecency and was the school’s highest-paid employee during the fiscal year ending in March 2012.

He received more than 241-thousand-dollars, a figure which can include salary, bonuses, commission, overtime and vehicle allowance as well as retirement, lump-sum and vacation payouts.

King’s Student Union president Nick Stark says he thinks some compensation is necessary, but said the amount paid to Smith is too much.
