Gas prices will re-set one day early in Nova Scotia this week because the Utility and Review Board is invoking the ‘interrupter clause.’ The board says it’s necessary due to significant shifts in the market price of gasoline. There is no indication, however, whether prices will go up or down.
As of Wednesday, prices in Metro Halifax were $1.43.4 per litre of self-serve regular.
Tuesday in the unregulated market of Toronto, prices dipped about 5 cents per litre. Wednesday in New Brunswick, the regulator is also expected to drop pump prices.
The UARB says Nova Scotia prices are based on the price of refined gasoline on the New York Mercantile Exchange. They then factor in the Canadian exchange rate, the wholesale margin, the retail mark-up and taxes to come up with the weekly price adjustments.
