A 19-year-old man from Lower Sackville has been formally charged in connection with the child luring case at the Joseph Howe Superstore.

The man was identified in court Monday as Leo Jones. He is charged with abduction of a person under 14 and sexual assault. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday.

“It does mean that there was some kind of physical contact or some kind of sexual motions,” says Halifax Regional Police Cst. Brian Palmeter. “In this case we would simply say, that without diminishing the seriousness of it, that (the sexual assault) would be on the lower end of the scale, but still a very serious offence and the charge reflects that.”

Police say a man approached a 4-year-old boy Wednesday afternoon and took him to the washroom upstairs at the Superstore. The man then left the washroom with the boy, but exited the store alone.

Pictures of the suspect were released Thursday, and police say tips from the public helped identify him. An arrest was made Friday morning.
