Dalhousie oceanographer John Cullen has been named to the Royal Society of Canada. It’s regarded as one of the highest achievements in Canada when it comes to both science and the arts.
Much of Cullen’s 35 year career has been devoted to studying ocean plant life and how it is affected by climate change.
“My colleagues and I are studying the effects of the ultra-violet radiation on the plant life in the ocean,” he says. “Safe to say, we were pioneers in that research.”
Cullen also worked on a major project setting up an ocean observatory in Lunenburg Bay.
