The Nova Scotia government has extended the work permit for a New York-based salvage company to scrap a bulk vessel stuck on Scatarie Island.

The Bennington Group has three additional months to remove the M-V Miner, which has been stuck on Scatarie’s rocky shores since September 2011.

Previously, Bennington had until Friday to complete the work, but the company complained that government bureaucracy and red tape hampered their efforts.

A tug was towing the M-V Miner when its line broke free and the ship ran aground.
