Some low-income Nova Scotians will be able to have their ambulance fees waived under a new program starting today.
The province says people with certain income levels can appeal their ambulance fees.
Health minister Dave Wilson says a family would have to meet the statistics Canada low-income criteria to qualify.
Most people in the province pay about $134 for ambulance service.
Meanwhile, the emergency department at North Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, will be closed again Monday.
It will close on Labour Day at 8 a.m. and reopen the next day.
Officials say there is no physician available to provide medical coverage.
Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 9-1-1.
