The man facing a charge of aggravated assault involving his six-week old child will be back in court Friday for a bail hearing.
Philip Jason Bowden, 37, was arraigned in Halifax provincial court Wednesday.
Police arrested him this week after a baby was brought to the IWK with life threatening injuries. Provincial authorities told investigators it was a suspected abuse case around 6 p.m. Monday.
No details about the child’s name, gender or nature of the injuries are being released because of the sensitive nature of the case.
Police spokesperson Cst. Brian Palmeter says the alleged abuse happened in a home in HRM and family members brought the child to the hospital.
The Herald reports Bowden is known to police and the Crown will oppose his release from custody on Friday.
Palmeter says the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.
