A strike by Northwood Homecare workers in Halifax that was set to begin Monday morning has been postponed.

A note posted on the NSGEU’s website says progress is being made in a last-minute round of negotiations.

The two sides returned to the table around 5 p.m. Sunday with the help of a provincial conciliator.

The online update, from president Joan Jessome, asks the members of Local 34 to report to work as usual – and try to be at an emergency meeting tonight.

Jessome says the 350 members will either get a new tentative agreement – or will go on strike then.

The main bone of contention is on-call shifts that are 10 hours long – but workers get paid for only eight.
