It seems that people still aren’t getting the message about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Halifax Regional Police arrested and charged 62 people with impaired driving during the month of July. That includes 49 men and 13 women, ranging in age from 19 to 72.
“Eight were identified after a crash had occurred,” says Haifax Regional Police Cst. Brian Palmeter. “28 were identified by police during their patrols, and 26 or 42% were called in by concerned citizens. So, certainly, we’d like to thank those people who took the time to call and help us get the impaired driver off the road.”
Of the 62 cases, 56 involved drivers impaired by alcohol. Five people would not provide a breath sample and were charged with the offence of refusal. The other case involved drug impairment.
