A Halifax man has admitted his role in a recent shooting death – and gone straight into hiding.

Simon Peter Dugas, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge of being an accessory to murder Tuesday and the Herald reports he’s been placed in the witness protection program.

The charge was related to the death of Corey Lucas, 36, who was shot and killed during a home invasion on Clifton Street on May 25.

Court heard that Dugas told investigators who the gunmen were and led them to evidence that he helped get rid of.

Two men are now facing murder charges.

Dugas received a conditional sentence Tuesday. The judge said that would normally never be allowed for such a serious charge, but said the witness protection program will allow further cooperation from Dugas.
